At Home Helpers Home Care of Durham & Chapel Hill, we believe everyone deserves to live safely and independently wherever they call home, and we’re here to be the extended family when loved ones can’t be. Our Cared-4℠ model takes a holistic approach to care, looking at the whole person rather than a list of tasks: personal care and companionship, nutrition and well-being, wellness support and medication reminders, and around-the-clock safety monitoring all work together in one customized plan. What sets us apart is how seriously we take caregiver preparation. Every caregiver is background checked, insured, and trained before their first visit, and we go further with condition-specific training in areas like dementia and Parkinson’s disease, so caregivers understand not just what to do, but why: how to respond to memory changes with patience, how to support safe movement and reduce fall risk, and how to preserve dignity through every stage. We take time to match each client with a caregiver whose skills, personality, and schedule truly fit, because the right relationship makes all the difference. As a locally owned agency serving Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Pittsboro, and NW Raleigh, we deliver the kind of care we would want for our own families.

Home Helpers Home Care of Durham & Chapel Hill is a locally owned agency with a simple mission: to be the most trusted and respected provider of home care for people who choose to stay independent wherever they call home. When family can’t be there, we step in as an extended family, offering care that is dependable, compassionate, and built around each person’s routines, preferences, and dignity.
We invest in our caregivers because they are the heart of what we do. Every caregiver is screened, trained, and supported by our clinical team, with added training in caring for people living with conditions like dementia and Parkinson’s disease. We serve families throughout Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Pittsboro, and NW Raleigh, and we treat every client the way we would want our own loved ones treated.
Our owner, Jennifer Hommes, came to home care after her own personal experiences in caregiving and coordinating care for her parents. "I want to share with the aging community and their loved ones the choices I made and how I might do it differently if given the chance". Her careers as a rehabilitation counselor helping people with disabilities live and work as independently as possible, and as a music educator helping create connections and facilitate learning all contribute to her desire to build a unique niche of home care. Home care is not just the physical, it's also addressing social isolation, grief, nutrition, and inactivity.
We believe good care starts with knowing the person, not just the diagnosis or the task list. Every client has their own history, routines, and ways of finding meaning in the day, and our job is to protect those things while providing the support they need. That means encouraging independence wherever possible, respecting each person’s choices, and treating dignity as non-negotiable. Through our Cared-4℠ approach, we bring together personal care and companionship, nutrition and well-being, wellness support, and safety in one coordinated plan that adapts as needs change. We see our caregivers as professionals and our families as partners, keeping them informed and involved so everyone shares the same goals. And we believe care should include moments of connection and joy, whether that’s a favorite song, a good conversation, or simply a familiar face at the door.
